[GreenKeys] Model 32 Tape Reader Q

Cory,

Its a mechanical problem in the distributor area. No drawings needed. The distributor cycles once any time the keyboard is hit once and repeats if the tape reader is used. Visually compare the 33 you have with the 32.

Kind of busy with family stuff so may not get back to you fast.

Subject: [GreenKeys] Model 32 Tape Reader Q

I had a little time to play with the ASR-32 last night and see why the
ape reader isn't functioning. Found the power supply with a blown
use and replaced that. The reader solenoid then springs to life,
ifting all the sense pins when I plug the machine in, but it doesn't
ycle, it just keeps the pins engaged. If I align a tape over the read
ins and turn the reader on, the machine will print the character
hat's encoded at that point. It just won't retract pins/advance the
ape.
I do have ASR33 schematics I've been looking over for this 32, but the
ay these things are laid out...somebody had a sick sense of humor!
Thoughts? For the record, I'm still running it with the phone dial half-rotated.
Thanks,
ory

 Cory,

 Welcome to the group!

I assume your 32 ASR is a Telex. If so it will be 66WPM until you change
the gears to 60WPM which is an RTTY speed. 66WPM is the old European Telex
 speed.

With it plugged in to the AC, rotate the dial some and it should stop
running open and run closed. The connect light will be on. Put a short
pencil or whatever in the dial to keep it in place and then you can test the
 machine.

Another way is with the power plugged in, take a 9 volt batt and touch the
line leads that go to pins 8 and 9 on the terminal strip. One may be ground
and that will be obvious. Use the other two. One way the batt will close
the loop just like the dial and the other way the Telex will shut down and
you can depress local to run the machine until you unplug the AC and then it
will revert to its original mode. There is AC on that strip, so be careful.

 Have fun.
