There's an interesting anecdote about accountants in the autobiography
of Norbert Wiener, the great MIT mathematician.

During WW-II he was in charge of a bunch of "computers" - meaning people
who operate desk calculators - working on ballistics calculations.  They
needed more computers, and after requesting same they were sent a bunch
of accountants.  Wiener said they couldn't get any useful work out of
them because they would carry out every calculation to two decimal 
places and then stop.
