I ran into a similar problem locating SAE 20 weight non-detergent oil for
my Atlas lathe last year. Auto parts places (at least the nearest 15 or so
to me) no longer carry 20 weight. 3-in-1 does sell 20W and I bought one
can but it is fairly expensive for the small can. After some checking
around, I settled on Mobile DTE Circulating Oil, Heavy-Medium. Late last year
it was $21.48/gal from Enco.

This is a topic that is always bubbling away not far from the surface,
hi.

When Don says not to use 3-in-1 oil I assume he is talking about
the kind in the red-white-black can. It is indeed too light for
Teletype use. However the 3-in-1 brand also has a 20 wt oil in
a blue and white can and that seems to be quite usable.
