I would have liked to have you in my lab Jim. ;-)
I could not answer the question either. Too many variables.
Rice likes the URA-8 system.  However at the other end of
the question I can answer.  That is which TUs do I NOT like
Flesher and Kantronics.

Another category would be the best value for the money.
My choice is Eric Volpe's Demod board.

If you are running the output of a TU straight into a TTY machine it is
hard to get a fair comparison.  The reason is that a false start or a
mutilated stop pulse will usually cause several erroneous characters
to be printed before the system recovers.  You need to be using an
electronic regenerator to trap these conditions so that the machine(s)
always see clean signals.
