Even if you do not put the flag up, just buying one made in the USA
will help the economy. The American Legion Emblem Sales has great
quality flags at good prices and the small profits go to help Veterans.

Here in Illinois last month we have lost more jobs than any other
state. Our governor raised the state income tax and put an additional
89,000 people out of work.

Now back to your regular programming.

I remember taking off from Mount Snow airport one very cold and crisp
evening and seeing two tiny sticks far to the South. When I pointed
them out to my flying buddy he finally saw them and said, "they're not
the twin towers, are they?" That is quite a distance to see them
from! A few years later I was working on Maiden Lane downtown and
got off at the Fulton Street subway station just after the first plane
hit. All that paper fluttering down, the burning smell, looking up
and seeing the sparkle of glass panes tumbling down, the people
falling too, the raging fire and thinking "what the heck is burning up
there?" Then the evacuating my office and the long trek uptown
through Central Park and over the Broadway bridge to Morris Heights
Metro North station where the trains were turning around and going
North. Won't forget all that for a long time.

Don,

Thanks for reminding me. I do distinctly remember putting up the flag
right after the buildings collapsed. And I do remember, since the flag
was flying close to the door, the feeling I had as the National Emblem
brushed against my arm later as I walked out doors.

I worked in central New Jersey for a year and a half and every week I
would drive down N.J. 22 on the way home from Newark with those towers
in view. One time I drove home with my grand daughter and I carefully
pointed where to look as they came into view. And I have many hours
sitting in the terminal with those two buildings across the river from
me. My sense of loss was very real. I know that it is difficult for
the "locals" to appreciate that those structures, and New York City
itself, belong to the whole country.

(1) Forward this email. (Please don't be the one to break this chain.
Take a moment to think back to how you felt on 9/11 and let those
sentiments guide you.

(2) Fly an American flag of any size on 9/11. Honestly, Americans
should fly the flag year-round, but if you don't, then at least make
it a priority on this day.

Thank you for your participation. God Bless You and God Bless
America !!!!
