Hi PDW,
I live in San Diego and YES, Murphys Surplus is a great place to go. 
Prices (as someone mentioned) are sometimes high but sometimes pretty 
good also.

Also, go just down the street (go South from Murphy's) to California 
Electronics. They have neat electronic items also. A visit to the 
local Ham Radio Outlet is also called for. They normally have some 
Used items for sale that are worth a look.
