Last week we announced that KSM and K6KPH would be available on a limited basis Saturday 8 October. But fate took a hand and both stations were off the air.
Fate came in the form of a RV that was exiting the national seashore on the main road at about 0900 Pacific time when the driver noticed that the rig was on fire. Exercising quick judgement he pulled over and bailed out. Sadly for us he pulled over directly under the main telephone cable feeding the Point Reyes peninsula including the receive site. The RV was a total loss as was the phone cable. Thus we had no means to control the transmitters in Bolinas. There was mumbling to the effect that if the original RCA owned cable was still in place this wouldn't have happened. But it isn't so the members of the Transmitter Department were able to dedicate themselves to a quiet day of maintenance at Bolinas while the Operations staff reviewed procedures for station operations.
REMINDER: The MRHS will be at Pacificon next weekend with a slide show and lecture, and a display with remote operations of KSM and K6KPH using vintage receive gear. Details? Please see our Web site at:
