Hi there!
I'm also a bit new to the list, but I also have a Model 33 machine.
Mine happens to be a KSR, but I do know that mine has the same CCU
code as yours. Using a handy little code chart that results in the
demystification of the UCC number codes, (the code chart can be found
here http://www.hertzmail.com/TTY/AnalysisCharts/ as "UCC-AC.pdf") we
can see that your CCU (and by extension mine) has:
> Private Line - Rotary power ON/OFF
> Printer Interconnections
> 500 Ma. Selector Magnet Driver (designed for 50-60 cps operation)
> Local Power Supply
> Convenience Outlet
> Duplex or Simplex Operation
> 15 pt. inter-connectors
> Wired for fully automatic reader control
> 48V AC Source for reader trip magnet
So, given the fact that it is listed as having been "wired for fully
automatic reader control" it should be capable of starting and
stopping the reader under the command of the PDP-11.
Now, in regards to a PDP-11 needing the teletype papertape
interface... that depends on whether or not you have a high
speed/standalone tape reader/punch, although the KL-11 (I think that's
the proper terminology, I'm not too familiar with module terms for the
PDP-11, but on the PDP-8 the console TTY interface is a KL board), is
most probably already configured to use the TTY reader/punch,
otherwise, I really have no idea what to do then (though, basing my
knowledge on what I know of the OMNIBUS PDP-8 systems, the KL8E (and
derivatives) could host the TTY's reader/punch without any
modification at all, so I assume the same regarding the PDP-11's
reader/punch).
Now, too bad you've got an 11/05; they're not as "blinky" as an 11/40,
/45, /50, /55 or /70, or as "historic" as the 11/20; but any 11 is
better the no 11 right?
Cheers to ya, and hope you get your ASR working with your 11/05.
