Lar,

No help on the time set, but I have worked on many of the clocks while at WU. I had a small one here, no second hand, that was beginning to get rusty in my basement, so sold it on ebay. My first ebay sale. Buyer was very pleased with it.

The pulse sent by WU was pretty strong. I think it was 300 MA, but not positive. I remember that we did not want to have our hands in the clock close to the pulse time. You can fine tune them with the adjustment on the pendulum. Also it helps to have the tick tock have equal time or sound equal when you level them on the wall and then screw down so they dont move. Then you can fine tune the pendulum.

Have fun,

Wayne

Subject: [GreenKeys] Western Union Time

Hi Folks,
Slightly "off topic" but very much Western Union (the folks who had all
hose teletypes) I have a collection of WU clocks. They were made by the
elf Winding Clock Co. of NYC. WU sent a pulse every hour to a solenoid in
he clock that pulled the minute and second hand straight up.
I wrote to the NIST who opereate WWV et.al. from their time site...
ttp://www.time.gov/timezone.cgi?Eastern/d/-5/java ....asking if there is a
ay to use their web site to get that hourly correction pulse for my clocks.
ike Lombardi wrote back that they don't have the 1 KHz correction pulse on
he internet site that is on WWV et. al. on the hour.
I know some of the nerds on this list talked about having their TTY machines
rint time...so my question is, has anyone the ability to extract a pulse
rom a computer to sense the hourly zeros at the above site?
BTW, Mike (at NIST) asked if I know anything about "radio controlled
locks"...which I've never heard of...anyone here that can comment on these?
Thanks,
ar
