It is expensive, but I use DuPont Krytox TFE based grease on plastic gears,
especially on irreplaceable gears.
(It is white!)

I have no idea what Heathkit used but suspect it was
Lubriplate.
I was able to find a synthetic grease labeled "plastic
compatible lubricating grease" LaBelle No.106 at a local
hobby shop that specializes in model railroad parts. Plastic
gears are common in model RR stuff. Check around your local
hobby shops for it, many seem to carry LaBelle lubricants.
