[GreenKeys] Hello Friends Teletype ASR 33 Needed

Hello friends.  I am new to the group and new to RTTY Teletype.  I am proud to 
be part of this group and look forward to learning a lot.  I have been an 
amateur/ham radio operator for 20 years.  I am currently looking for all the 
advice and learnings I can get about amateur radio and Teletype machines and how 
to use them together.  I am currently looking for a Teletype ASR 33.  I have 
extremely limited funds but can pay shipping.  I look forward to talking with 
you all and learning from you.  Thank you.

    Once you've dealt with the basement cleanup, cleaning up the
machine is routine, although annoying.

    First step is a hose-down.  Ideally this should be done with
distilled or de-ionized water, but you can probably do a first
washdown with tap water.  Do this until you're getting clear
water out.  The electronics can survive this, although it's
not good for paper insulation.  (How much paper insulation
does a Model 33 have?  I vaguely recall some cardboard.
Is there any paper inside the motor?)  That may have to be
replaced later.  You may also lose the loudspeaker, if
you have a unit with a built-in modem.

    Before the tap water evaporates and leaves behind iron and
solids, wash with distilled or de-ionized water (any big
grocery store has it) mixed with some Simple Green.  Or,
if necessary, undiluted Simple Green.  Then
rinse with distilled or de-ionized water, and finally let
the thing dry completely.

    In electronics manufacturing, one of the last steps in board
manufacture, after assembly and soldering, is a pass through
a dishwasher-like unit.  Pure water is OK.  Detergents are
OK.  Water with iron content is not OK; it leaves behind
conductive rust streaks that short things out.

with about a dozen of these things.

Howdy Folks,

My Model 35 Answer Back refuses to stop turning when called by another machine.  
I'm not sure if I set up the wheel correctly....Is it supposed to be on the "ST" 
position when it's stopped or, is that a start position.....IOW, what does ST 
stand for on the wheel?

Is this supposed to be aligned with the cam that kicks out the clutch solenoid?  
Something is keeping the solenoid up and the clutch continues engaged...after a 
while, the clutch solenoid will deactivate and the unit stops.

Any thoughts are sure appreciated.

Here is some nice information on the last Teletype Ticker.
I sent an image of the 288B earlier which WUTCo called the 900.
The principles of operation are described by Jerry Murphy who
owned one of these.  I remember Jack Hart mentioning that he
thought it should have been called a 37 Tape Printer as the
mechanism is more like a 37 than a 28.  I suppose the character
set was the reason since the 37 was ASCII. I think 29 would have
been okay even if it had been used by other 6 level machines.

Hi Don:

This was a production model that was introduced in July, 1964
if we go by the date on the original manual.  The Technical
manual for the ticker was 288B.  Its title was "Technical Manual,
28 Tape Printer Set, (Stock Ticker).  The Parts manual was 1194B
and its title was "Parts, Teletype Tape Printer Set For Stock
Ticker Service."  I worked for Western Union in 1966 and it was
called "the 900" because it printed at 900 characters per minute.
It was only used on New York Stock Exchange ticker service.  All
of the other exchanges still used the 5A.  The 900 ticker was
gone from service by the end of the 60s.  It was too slow and
was replaced by electronic devices.

The ticker consisted of the following:
LP112TE typing unit  -  no stunt box
LB33 base
LMU42 motor  -  the motor turned in the opposite direction of a
              regular M28 motor.
LPC212HF cover

The ticker received 6 level code sent in a 9 bit format at 135
bits per second.  The mainshaft rotated at 514 RPM.  Three of the
clutches (selector, code bar and function) were of the 2 stop type.
All of the remaining clutches were 1 stop but acted like 2 stop
because of a clever design of sliding trip levers.  The idea of 1
stop clutches acting like 2 stop clutches was also seen in the
Model 37 printer.

That manual is courtesy of Eugene Hertz.  I have a slightly newer
parts book and the Technical Manual.  The machine that I had -
the one in your picture - was sold to a fellow in Miami sometime
in the 90s.

Put on rubber gloves.

Wrestle machine to yard near hose faucet.

Mix 409 and household ammonia 50-50 and put in spray bottle.

Spray machine from safe distance, let soak for 10 minutes.

Rinse biohazard off with hose.
