Certain models of the BRPE were equipped with the capability of 
punching anything from 5-level to 8-level tape.

It was a matter of adjusting the tape channel to accommodate the 
tape width in question, and setting up the driver electronics to 
match the tape width.

The CX readers could also be obtained with the capability of reading 
anything from 5 to eight levels. I have one of those in my "Special" 
collection.
