Joe,

The red tacky grease is a type of automotive wheel bearing grease.   
Personally I prefer the "One Grease" made by the Slick 50 company.

You will get many opinions on this.  Bottom line is if Teletype wants  
it grease... grease it. If it is supposed to be oiled... oil it.  I  
also prefer the "One Lube" by Slick 50.
