Hi All,
I had the rare pleasure of meeting a fellow TTY enthusiast yesterday (Sunday, July 24). His sleigh was full of gifts and toys for all good TTY girls and boys, and I received a really cool Model 28 tape printer and a Model 28 TD. I have already gotten the TD's external case and base plate sparkly clean by running them through the dishwasher. (An old phone trick to clean dirty cases and cords.) Then I trimmed the fraying but sound cloth loop cord, and secured it to the unit with the cord strain clamp on the back of the unit. Looks excellent!
Then I held my breath, plugged it in, and turned it on after making sure that the machine was not seized up by turning the motor over by hand. It fired right up, but I only let it run for about ten seconds. I turn it off and will proceed to take pictures of the internals to post. I have found four oil locations on the motor, and there is a ball bearing assembly on the very front of the reader that has open bearings, so I need to find the proper lubracant for that.
If anyone has any suggestions or wisdom as to what on this unit needs to be lubricated, please let me know.
Best,
Joe Herdler
