Well, I used the wires to steer the keytops from the side, beneath the
plastic.. no scratching of anything involved.

A Pentel-size (about 1/8" dia.) eraser stuffed into the end of a piece of
tubing might work better than a wire as it won't tend to slide on the
keytops
(won't scratch them, either). I had to do something similar once but don't
think it involved keytops.
