Ken, you would be right if we were all given only one bid (like a silent
auction, item goes to the highest bidder). But in an auction where everyone
can bid as often as they like then the "highest bid" is a matter of time as
it increases unecessarily. I would say that if ebay changed their rules
(this is a hypothetical argument) that bidding starts and then ends 1 minute
later, you would be right. We would all have only one opportunity to put our
highest bid in and that would be that. But the items would sell for much
less. In the current way to bid (6 days or so) people see they have been
outbid and bid higher, over and over again.

It does if you bid high enough.
Aren't we all forgetting that it's the HIGHEST bid that wins, no matter what
time it was placed?
