Also, I've seen a circuit using a transistor or two that replaces the usual 2K or 2.5K resistor with a constant-current circuit. This supposedly lets you get by with maybe 60V on the selector without loss of performance. And I've read of guys using as little as 24V with a constant current circuit and on a strictly local loop.
