I recommend your nerd son go BSD instead of Linux.

Why? BSD is actually competent. Also, the more useful thing is that it
is completely, absolutely, one hundred percent free. (Linux has the
"fun" of the GPL encumbering it; so while free, its license is
infectious.)


Better question is: CRON on Windows?
