A good part of the fun (aside from a machine's restoration) is tweaking in
antenna systems and TUs to counter the effects of low sig strength and
selective fading. Watching the mark and space channels via a scope during a
period of selective fading gives a full appreciation of the design work that
went into those "vintage" TTL-2; ST-6; Dovetron etc designs when RTTY was
very commonplace on HF.

While ITTY is excellent...it is also error free and an inexpensive
interface is all that's needed. Rene's WLO broadcast gets us back into the "real
radio" mode and maybe will spawn more on-air HF action in the ham bands
with actual machines rather than PCs and keyboards. We picked 8MHz as
potentially being the best probable nightime band for a good portion of the county
but other channels are available at 4, 6 and 12 MHz as well. The various
signal reports Greenkeyers have sent in are very useful..some as distant as
Germany and Italy.

The latest issue of Monitoring Times pretty much sums up the status of
on-air HF RTTY and the lack of anything meaningful to actually copy.
Besides, who wants to get a steady diet of the Weather Channel on HF?? Maybe if
this gains some traction, more inventive folks might develop some innovative
hardware or DSP projects to further enhance the listening pleasure.

If you're going to "copy" RTTY off the WEB, then why not just
copy ITTY?

Hi group,

For those of us with difficulty getting good HF reception at that
freq, is anyone familiar with any 'WEB SDR' radio sites that cover
freqs outside of the ham bands we might be able to use to listen to
WLO?

The RFI pollution and lack of a decent antenna precludes good
reception at this site in Portland, OR. :-(

Thanks for any help!

All three xmitters are down at the moment. (ITTY, Autostart & WLO.)

of George's North West power failures.

(I hope.)
I just tried calling his cell phone, but got no answer, and left a
message.
