LOL yes it would be a mess for 3 ply if you wanted to save the carbon paper... personally the carbon would be history...
but at the speed a winder works... a little imagination and work space...
there would be two piles of paper (3 ply) that could become "new rolls"
depends on how much you want to spend... for paper that is becoming "unobanium"
Fan fold on the other hand... someone the other day wanted an idea about how to roll it... waLa...
If you dont have a paper tray on your 28,35,whatever... rolling up fan fold isnt that bad an idea
to keep it from getting oily as it sags down and gets pulled over the function box.
of course there could be a personal mod to the back of the printer other than a paper tray that would work.

I don't know why anyone would want to rewind fanfold. Just set the box on the floor like every radio station I ever worked in did. A case of fanfold is worth about three cases of roll paper. I would predict that if you hook it up, you will never use all of it.
You could use the winder to separate out multi-layer material but you would have to have a winder for each layer unless you just dump all of the carbon layers and the second and subsequent layers of paper into the trash. Three ply paper will take five winders to successfully recover all of the paper.

Steve,
Its a "printed material" winder. ...yes when mounted correctly the bar detects slack in the print copy
and starts the motor to wind till the bar is lifted and the limit switch opens to stop the motor.
with a little work it could be used to "re-wind" paper from a fanfold supply or "Seperate a multiple copy roll of TTY paper
