Jim H:

Correct. I guess I should have included the "correct" machine functions
for the NNNN sequence.

It was (usually) 2 CR, 8 LF, 4 NNNN, and often followed by 12 LTRS keys
in most tape relay operations.

The combination of the 8 LF and 4 NNNN made it very easy for a tape
ape to find or spot on a perforated tape.

In a similar vein, and right after the opening ZCZC sequence, within
the tape relay realm, the proper opening for a message was:

5 SP, 2 CR, 1 LF, or what we called "5-2-1". Again, this was something
most of us looked for and recognized from rote within the tape relay.
