One major reason 25 cycles was used for so long on railraods is properly 
designed series wound traction motors could run on it almost as well as 
DC.  The New Haven Railroad used 11,000 volts 25 cycles on the overhead 
line, but Grand Central staion was 600 volts DC third rail. The 
locomotives or "motors" as they were called could easily use either 
power source, and could run all the way in to Grand Central.  There was 
25 cycles at Shea's theater in Buffalo until early this century,  and at 
least one model 15 with a governed motor was powered from it. I will 
make a guess  there were a few power supplies for model 19s that could 
work on 25 cycles as well, can anyone confirm yes or no?
