     EvapoRust does remove rust without harming metal.  It's a chelating
agent that attacks oxides.  However, it will also remove the
Parkerizing on Teletype parts.

     The item must be totally submerged in EvapoRust. EvapoRust on a
surface exposed to air will cause rust.  After the soak, it's essential
to remove any remaining EvapoRust with a wash, and then quickly dry
the metal before it re-rusts.

     Now you have bare metal with a clean surface, which must be
protected with oil or a rust preventative.
