Thanks for the reply! My problem is a bit different than yours. The spring tension is set too tight, and I can't release the tension by 'oscillating' the escapement lever. The carriage isn't getting jammed at the right, fortunately. I received a couple off-list replies (thanks, Jack and Tom) that said "loosen the nut". I should have thought of that before, given that I've already had the front plate (the one with the serial number badges on it) off of my other machine. As soon as I loosened the nut, the spring went "shoook" as it released it's tension.
I'll be back home tomorrow after a week of vacation. I'll loosen the nut!
