[GreenKeys] ROTRs and Model 35 machines

Larry,

Several versions of the 35ASR were available. On some of our private
line versions a stand alone Receive Only Typing Reperforator (ROTR)
was plugged into the ASR with a long cable. The ROTR could be turned
on by pushing a key or with a code in the typing unit stunt box.

In addition to this variant, the 35ASR itself can be put in a tape
only position for sending (TTS) or tape only receiving (TTR)
In Illinois Bell every single 35 ASR we installed had a typing
reperforator in it. If the customer did not pay for the option we
disabled the printing and removed the ribbon.

Occasionally there would be an odd ball arrangement (special design)
where a stand alone ROTR would be connected to a 35KSR or a 35RO but
very few of these were in our district of 600+ machines. The problem
of course using a ROTR for cutting tapes is that there is no way to
backspace the reperforator if you make a mistake. Most tape cutting
applications used the 35 ASR or an off-line 35 KTP (Keyboard Typing
Perforator)

I can send you images of these variants if you would like to see images.

73,
Don K9TTY
