If this is Air Force equipment, I recall that we did mods to the the
Kleinschmidt ASR gear to improve compatibility with crypto equipment. This
included, I think, providing a stepper pulse and a longer stop pulse. That was
1967.

Anyone have any idea why the military used 8.0 unit (two stop bits) code?
