Jim -
?
For a given configuration wasn't there a master WD that listed all the components and WDs for that configuration?
?

Sorry, but you don't get to find out. At Teletype there was a document
called a B/M (Bill of Material) for each kind of thing that listed all its
components or assemblies. So there would be a B/M for LRB21, but it might
refer to some additional B/Ms for assemblies of parts, so you had to have
all of them to get down to the last screw and spring. These were not
customer documents; I guess they never imagined that a customer would
want them.

Then there were some things called Analysis Charts, and I have a few of
those, but nothing connected with LPR and friends. Some of these just
cover for example keyboard arrangements, showing how they differ from
one another, and perhaps who the first customer for a particular
arrangement was. Others for things like LP have to tell about all kinds
of variations and features that may or may not be included.

I don't know whether the sales organization had its own cheat sheets
to help in deciding which already-released model of something would suit
customer needs or if a new variation was needed. And I'm not sure how
they decided when to create a new code and when to just apply some
modification kit to an existing code.

If only we had a time machine...
