I was wandering through a local antique and consignment shop
today and picked up an item with the following label:
SIGNAL CORPS U.S. ARMY
HANDSET TS-10-M
WESTERN ELECTRIC
On the side, stamped in red enamel, it says:
FUNGUS TREATED, JUNE, 1945
The thing is just a telephone handset, brass, Bakelite and
steel, net weight 1 pound 14 ounces, including 7 foot
cord with a pair of huge alligator clips on the end. I
clipped it across my home phone line and it works as an
extension phone (no dial, just good for answering the phone).
My wife says the microphone "sounds like it's from 1945"
and when I asked why, she said, "it's a bit faint, but I
could hear you clearly." The earphone is excellent.
Is this interesting to anyone? What's it worth?
