This was done some during WW-II because the need to get a high
message throughput outweighed the extra wear and maintenance
that it entailed. I've never seen a document on running 15s at
100 wpm but I believe there are a few changes that have to be
made in addition to gears, such as increased spring tensions here
and there.
In the mid 1950s I and some college classmates visited the FAA
Aeronautical Center in Oklahoma City. There we saw a Model 15
being run at 100 wpm experimentally. It wasn't pretty. The
FAA wisely gave up on that and bought Model 28s when it wanted to
upgrade its networks.
