How did the military ever live with some TTY's? I'm working on two military TTY's, the (notorious) 74A and the later 74B.
This stuff was supposed to be the best of the best for the armed forces. The platen on the 74A simply disolved into a gooie mess one day and "melted" onto all of the 80 hammers that beat on the ribbon that beats against the rotating drum.
Well, I cleaned up that mess and used heat shrink to establish a new platen cover. But for one intermittent hammer, it works....amazingly!
Two 74B's have blown parts in the pin driver print card....the one remaining works. It's working fine for now, the two will await a miracle that I find new print head driver cards.
These are amazing works of engineering but, somehow they just don't seem to be what is needed by a military dependent upon results.....I wonder what they're using today.
