Hi All:
I have decided to give Evapo-Rust a try, for several
reasons...
It does not effect the metal, only the rust if it works as
advertised. Acid and lye based removers do etch away some
solid metal.
Secondly, and certainly a major reason, it is available
locally.
Third, it is safe, and not considered a hazardous chemical -
they say safe enough to wash your hands in.
It will not effect other metals according to documentation
on the Rest-Check site, and as there is some of the
assembly which is white metal, this is a consideration.
Before starting the process, I cleaned oil and grease off
it and took several close-up photos of it, and I will
report back too the list on how it works. If it does as it
says, it could be the saviour of many machines which would
be consigned to the junk pile otherwise...
So, expect a report from me in a couple of days on how it
works. It isn't a fast procedure, especially with severe
rust. It will be interesting to see how it works,
particularily on the pivots on the levers...
