Hi Derek:
The holes in the disk are all at the same radius so it's not a flying
spot scanner.
There appears to be an optical source/sensor across the holes which
would allow this device to generate something like a square wave.
How many holes and what's the RPM of the motor? Can you see a part
number on the optical source/sensor?
To free up the mainshaft Kroil may work.
