 Well, looking in Wipedia, I found that just the Teletype models 14, 15, 32
 and 33 accounted for about 360.000
I've not yet found anything regarding Creed, Kleinschmidt and Siemens and
 all the other "small" ones. I don't think 1 million is far off.
A bit of folklore : in The Hague (31068 GV NL) we had in the 60/70's 10
 gentex receivers, 10 transmitters, 8 for telex traffic, about 30 model 14's
 in the "spare room" (should Gentex fail), etc.
For Copenhagen, my wife remembers at least 13 receivers for Gentex traffic
 (she has a telegram saying 2111 RM KBHVN DK)
