Thanks to Steve Ripper, I am now the proud owner of the "Mystery

Teletype Accessory", a Teletype Model LCL. The paperwork is dated

in the 1960's, making this a Model 28-compatible device.

The LCL is a mechanical clock/timer that was used with Baudot
machines to

generate timecodes.

There are multiple cams and contacts associated with a small 110VAC

synchronous clock motor. The cams operate gold-plated contacts

that, except for the TENS HOURS digits (0, 1 or 2 - it's 24 hour
time),

generates the digits in direct parallel Baudot code. The parallel code

would be read sequentially by relays (stepper?) and parallel-to-serial

distributor. The stepper could be "programmed" with a preamble,

CR/LF/FIGS, read the time from the LCL, and then send

CR/LF/LTRS.

It's probably possible to interject a colon between the hours and

minutes. and even have it print out "TIME" before reading the

timer.

There are three thumbwheels which are used to set the time. There is

also a "blocking solenoid" that blocks the time from changing if the

timer is being read by the relays/distributor.

A few years ago I build a Teletype Clock using 32 integrated
circuits...but this is

a lot cooler...and it makes noise!

Now...to make it work...

Jack K0TTY
