Assuming it really is for a Creed machine, I'll try to understand what
is going on.
The Creed Model 7 type selection is quite different from a Teletype. I
assume that whatever model this was for works similarly.
The bell cranks are arranged in circle. Once the five units of code are
received one of the cranks is selected and it drops radially inwards.
The type head rotates inside the circle of bell cranks and is stopped by
the dropped crank in the correct position for printing.
Note in the test tape the frequent occurrence of double letters. A
double letter would cause the type head to perform one complete
revolution between received characters. What that might test I'm not
sure. Every letter except Q and V (I think) appear as a double.
I have a diagram of the order of the cranks. The first double letter is
TT preceded by E. The crank for E is almost diametrically opposite T.
The following Y is about 30 degrees clockwise of T so I can't deduce
anything from that. The next double letter is MM where M is about 90
degress clockwise from the preceding E. Next is OWWO where O is
diametrically opposite W. Next IZZY where I is opposite Z. D, Figs
shift, =, letter shift, D are all nearly opposite.
It 's about this point that I give up and admit that what's going on is
incomprehensible!
Cheers,
Sam
