Hi all...
I can't. help but comment on Larrys' fine example of
this truly unique M15KSR...I have never seen anything like it! None of my documentation on the M.15 mentions it, nor
are there any parts references...
I know up here in Canada, the Royal Canadian Navy used
shipboard M15's in a 'Ruggedized' set up, with the heavy duty shock mounts, base to table hold-down bolts etc.
I can recall some of the older guys in our shop discussing these printers, but they appeared to have the standardized base & typing unit set up. Apparently the spacing clutch
spring was beefed up considerably to allow positive spacing
when the machine was tilted up on the R.H.S.. I gess it
wud put more tension of the felt spacing clutch. I believe also there was a heavier carriage return spring & some kind
of improved dashpot mech. to cushion the CR.
I noticed on Larry's machine, the power & signal lines
enter from the L.H.S. rear, on a model 28 type terminal
block. Don't. know if this TTY factory or not, or if
a 'Retro' by USN.
I suspect this unit may have been of Korean war or later
vintage due to the extensive use of the aluminum alloy
castings. If one looks closely at the pictures of the
rear of the typing unit/base, one will see the rear crossbar
of the typing unit appears to be the older black iron type
(Look near the figs/lttrs shift bar area). This wud increase the strength in this area...
It wud be nice if Larry cud supply the base I.D. tag
designation and the typing unit serial nbr. This wud help
us to 'Date' this particular machine.
I hope there are more comments on this truly remarkable
Model 15KSR...
Tks much!
