I've just mostly finished a hardware-only version of this actually :)
Pop in a sim card and send and receive SMS messages on a teletype.
The dev board has bluetooth and rs232 as well, so maybe a computer link
is in the future as well. It currently handles the ASCII-Baudot conversion,
with shifts, etc.. and the line timing. Entertainingly, the onboard UART
on a modern ARM system-on-chip can still be persuaded to run at 45.45 baud,
5 bits, etc... even with a 48 MHz system clock. :)
