You out-bid me Doctor... glad you did, my wife would be really angry
if I brought home another 19.. So far I have lugged at least 5 of them.
I offered the man $25. to save the machine.

It is definitely a BELL SYSTEM machine and is not military.
You will notice the character counter on the right side of the keyboard.
Most military machines have the character counter on the left of the
keyboard in front of the perforator to save space.

The sad part of the machine you picked up is that the person who had
it did not realize that the cables are plug ended and he cut the wiring
to move it in modules. Hopefully you can make sense of his damage.

I have some M19 ASR drawings here. There are several versions.
If you send me an image of lower portion of the back of the machine
I might be able to help you.

I also have several rectifiers here. I have no idea whether your 19
has one in the base or not... if you want to run the machine you will
need one.

There are a couple of 19s shown on my website...

Since we're talking about successful machinery hauling, here's
another. I just got home with it today:

It's a Model 19 set, pretty much complete. It may look a bit familiar
as it was on ebay recently. It didn't sell there, but later the
owner was willing to part with it for less. Under the dust, it seems
to be in pretty good shape, really. I'm particularly glad that
it has the relay and the table/rectifier (and of course the punch -
this is my first 5-level punch). I've still got a lot to figure out
about it, and some basic cleaning/hookup/testing to do. (The Model 5
Linotype is firmly at the head of the project queue right now, though,
so it may be a while before I get to this.)

Two questions:

(1) The unit is painted a sort of gray-green, which to my un-military
eye
makes it look military (but it isn't an olive drab sort of green).
The badge on the front, though, says Bell System Teletypewriter Service.
There are no obvious military markings on it.
Is it likely that this was a military or a civilian unit?

(2) What is the name/designation for this set overall, inclusive
of the Typing Unit, TD, table, Rectifier, etc.? Is it correct to
call it simply a "Model 19," or would it be a "Model 19 Set"?
Or would it be something else? The Teletype Corporation's otherwise
laudable habit of making everything modular does make the question
of naming collections of modules more difficult.
