When I was an orbital analyst in the old Space Surveillance Center (SSC) in Cheyenne Mountain, around 1977-1978, there was a Flexowriter that we used along with a card reader and punched IBM cards to communicate with the Philco 2000 mainframe computer. The main program jobs were input using prepunched ("canned") card decks, with the specifics parameters to each new job inserted among the canned cards. Short commands and job status queries to the Philco would be input manually on the Flexo. Having played with and rebuilt Model 15s and 19s prior to getting the assignment, I thought the Flexo was a marvel. I think they continued to use that arrangement for a few more years after I left the SSC for a radar assignment.
