The typing unit has four holes that screws go thru to fasten onto the base. 
If you try to lift the typing unit and it moves then that is a possible 
problem.  The holes are in the 4 corners and easily discernable.  Frequently 
the technician, for the sake of time, leaves some or all the screws 
out....laying around in the cabinet.

Best of luck with this project....they're a lot of fun to restore and lots 
of info out there...mostly on eBay...Teletype Corp maint. manuals for cheap.
