Hey Larry;

There are two possible (make that plausable) explanations:

o The bidders don't know what they're doing or bidding on.

o It is a ruse by the seller and his buddies to jack up the price,
   which is illegal in eBay land.

When I was a novice on eBay, I'd put in my highest bid up front,
figuring that it would scare people off and I'd avoid a bidding
war. There was more than once that I saw my bid there until the
last minute - and then I was eased-out of 1st place and it was too
late to put in another bid.

Once I understood how eBay worked, I didn't bid until the end.
If I wanted something REALLY BAD I would get my rearend out of bed
(even at 3:00am) and drive to the Hewlett Packard office where I worked
and use their T-3 link to put in that killer-bid in the last 10 seconds!

Tony J. Podrasky | The principle difference between a toy and a game is
                  | the latter has some clearly defined goal or purpose;
                  | therefore life is not a game, but a toy.
