Duncan,

I and a few others refer to the 'Old" system (which dates to 1940) as the
"Short Number" system. The new one that was phased in beginning around 1955
is obviously referred to as the "Long Number" system. To my knowledge, no
manual was moved from Short to Long simply by having its number changed (as
happened with a few pieces of hardware). The set of manuals on a few pieces
became mixed, mostly by having short number operations and maintenance
manual and long number parts manual. There were also a very few cases of an in
between system. For example, the T-368/URT manual started as TM 11-809.
Then it was split into TM 11-809-10, -20 and -35. Which were never re-done as
TM 11-5820-nnn-nn. But the parts manual shifted from SIG 7 & 8 T-368/URT to
TM 11-5820-258-20P and -35P.

Incidently, I've been looking for TM 11-5820-258-35P for a long time. If
anyone has or knows of a copy, please contact me.

The T-368 would have been the transmitter in your AN/GRC-26D.
