[GreenKeys] Finally, smell of hot oil

Jim, yes I had that green stuff. Everything went together perfectly except
if I crank down on the left hold down nut I can get the bottom selector go
bind. It is not an assembly error and everything is straight and clean. So
I just went a little light on the pressure and locked the backing nut and
everything is good. I looked for (but can't find yet) the correct machine
oil to lubricate this. I have a gallon somewhere.
The machine is working fine with the exception that the main clutch slips
slightly (too little spring tension) and I need to look up the procedure to
adjust it. Because of this every once in a while I get an error.
This particular machine is pretty old - says Morkrum Kleinschmidt on the
base (although Teletype on the printer). I think the printer was a
replacement as it has a pretty high serial number.

I've had to do that to a few of the 2B machines. On taking the selector
apart I found the separator plates had a green varnish-like substance
on them. The green probably comes from the nickel in the plating, but
I don't know what caused the varnish. Maybe W.U. didn't used the standard
Teletype lubricant, or maybe even the standard Teletype lubricant forms
the varnish over time.

The legend is that Howard Krum came up with that particular design on
a visit to Coney Island, and sketched it on a paper napkin.

That is also typical of Western Union. I have no idea why they preferred
a plain flywheel to a fan.
