To remove a 33 from the pedestal without help, you take out the two front screws and the right rear one (standing in the back of the unit). Then loosen the left rear one slightly and pick up on the 33 slightly and turn it clockwise 1/8 turn or so till its balanced on the stand. Then remove the last screw. Install on a pedestal in reverse order except its hard to line up that first screw. Always pick a 33 up from the back when possible. Less chance of damage to kybd and tape reader.

y 2 cents, having done this recently.
Before you do anything else, remove the plastic cover. This is probably
asily broken and unrepairable. Might want to pack it/ship it
eparately.
>From the pics on the ebay site, it looks like there's no pedestal, but
he second photo shows the two clips that hold the unit onto the
edestal, so unclear if there's a pedestal or not. If there is, if you
emove the printing unit, keep in mind that it's not balanced on the
edestal, so after the last of the four screws comes out, and then the
wo clips in the back, you'd better have someone supporting the front of
he keyboard.
good luck!

Aaron,
Attached are pictures of how I pack one up in a special crate. Separate the
tand from the unit. Shipping of the stand is not too critical. Remove the
eet if you can. You can pack all the accessories in the stand for easier
hipping of the main unit. You only use sheet metal screws on the right sideof
he 33 that go into the UCC-6 electronics. Mainly you use the 3 threaded ones
ou mention with the standoffs above the board. They go into the printer and
old it in place as well as the whole unit. Tricky to get them in, but use
atience. Some units did have all sheet metal screws, but mostly early ones.
lso tie the carriage to the left with a twister tie or pipe cleaner.
Looks like a nice unit.
73's,
Wayne

I sort of accidentally picked up this ASR-33 on ebay, looks kinda nice, I
or giggles I put $399 into my autobidder fully expecting it to go for, you
now, $2000 or something, but I guess I got unlucky and now I own it. Oops.

hat is the best current practice for securing the typing mechanism? Last
ime I played with one they seemed to be self-tapping screws, nothing
tandard worked well. So maybe a set of screws and some washers? I don't
ant him to over-tighten them and crush the unit down.
It's possible I have an original fiberboard here someplace, but there were I
hink some little round standoffs as well, sort of a little sleeve with a
lange at one end.
Does anyone have an original shipping mount they could lend me?
