FWIW, I've used stringy axle grease where applicable and non-detergent  
10W30 
with no problems.  Lithium was a big disappointment....got dry  and rather 
useless.

I concur with  Larry about the oil, but as for grease I use Lucas Oil 
Products Red "N" Tacky  #2.
It doesn't sling around, and stays where put. (Withstands high  heat.) This 
stuff is available in Home Depot and auto stores.
