Hi John,
I had a couple 5310s at the museum. They could be used with friction
feed, sprocket feed or tractor feed.
Kind of a neat little unit. Made mostly of plastic. The 5310 was a
printing terminal. You might call it a KSR
You set the parameters of your data by going through a tree menu with
buttons and a small LCD window.
It came with a keyboard that looks much like a computer keyboard.
They were made by AT&T in Singapore. The largest use I know of was a
terminal for tracking the routine
and maintenance of central office battery plants. However you could
use it for any kind of a terminal
application. Somewhere here I have a pocket operators guide for one.
AT&T made a small series of these units with different model numbers
depending on features. The
numbering made no sense to me. Some were three digit models and the
most common was the 5310.
There used to be a few of these up for bids on eBay from 2000-2005. I
have not seen any recently.
Only the first units had Teletype on them. The majority have the
death star logo with AT&T next to it.
I will send you an image when I find one.

While going through some old papers I found the instruction and spec
sheet for a DataCap Model 2853 interface which we used when we replaced
the model 28s with small printers in the weather office. I don't
remember what printers we used but what confuses me is this:
The manual states, "The DataCap Model 2853 interface upgrades the
TeleType Corporation Model 5310 printer or other RS232 printers to
operate as a monitor on the NOAA weather wire service or other 5 level
Baudot circuits."
I've never heard of a TeleType 5310 printer. Do any of you have any
experience with such an animal? It's not a world-stopper if I don't find
out this info, but it has aroused my curiosity. Incidentally, I have the
DataCap unit which I expect I "appropriated" when we went computerized
on all our lines.
