Vacuum? those PTOs are designed to be pressurized - not hold a 
vacuum...    I wrote up an article for Electric Radio on going through a 
PTO - due to some circumstances -- I never got it submitted.  It gives a 
lot of details (with a lot of illustrations) about repairing PTO - 
including nitrogen flushing and charging. If there is interest - I'll 
see if I can find it.
