Went to Flagstaff today and picked up the Model 35 ASR. Brrrrr. 40 degrees and windy just a bit cool for me in shorts. Oh well.... Luckily i took along a jacket and sweatpants just in case i needed them.
the unit was stored in a shed where the owner had been doing woodworking with his power tools. So with sawdust all over the floor it made it pretty easy to slide the beast over to the door, tip it up and slide it into the back of my truck. Not a problem. Couldn't find the manuals although he swears that he has them someplace and will locate them for me.
Got home back here in the 80 degree weather, geeZ it's tuff this time of year and unloaded the machine by the door on my garage. No i didn't tie a rope around it and tie it off in the garage and then drive out from under it!!!!
Took a wet rag and a dry one as well and wiped the machine down. Really looks pretty darn good. The bottom door is there and not bent out of shape and nothing appears broken. After wiping it down i opened the lid and hand rotated both motors to make sure they were free turning. Where's the extension cord? Plugged it in and "VOILA" machinen verken!. Had tape in the punch but no paper for the printer. No biggie here. got lots of that around. Operated the front panel switch to the various positon to verify the Punch, TD and keyboard all function. Yes indeed, listen to the beautiful noise as the TD reads the tape and the punch reads the signal and repunches tape some more. I had punched out a variety fo Ry and AS so i had some tape ready for the TD. There is a power supply of some sort in the bottom and the top is complete, esu, motors, gear drives etc etc etc. Appears to be working just fine.
Sure hate to tear this apart for parts but i have no use for it. Cost me about $70 for gas and food to go get it, 345 miles round trip.
The previous owner said that the 20 ma loop card or circuit is operational.
Along with the machine in the bottom cover pocket were some documents. One is a "History of data terminal device" , kind of like a trouble history log with a last entry date of April 5, 1980.
Also there were the original TT Corp documents in their original folders;
7993 WD Actual wiring diagram for Model 35 Typing Reperforator LPR809, 12-29-65
and
7989 actual wiring diagram for Model 35 Typing unit Stunt Box -AUP, LP-831-855. The 855 is hand written in with a pencil. Dated 5-16-66
Inside that envelope also was a browning piece of paper that had 10 lines of "Fox" and the statement that " This is a Speciman of typed copy from this equipment as it left the factory".
That's all i know.
