[GreenKeys] Questions on Siemens T100A

Hello,

This is my first message to this list, so I will make a minimal introduction. I love tube radios and TVs, as old as possible (in practice and keeping money in mind that is synonym of 1920s radios and late 1940s TVs), I love the radio waves (LU8AJA, pleased to meet you), and I also love antique physics equipment (like Crookes tubes, Geissler tubes, etc)

Now, back to the list topic. :)

I have been looking for a mechanical teletype for years, however here in Argentina they never show up in auctions or actually... anywhere at all.
By chance, last week I saw one on a local auction site, and jumped for it immediately.

It is a Siemens T100A, from the early 60s. It is in great shape, just seriously dirty, but at least it seems it was never outdoor, exposed to the elements, which is great news.

I turned it on and the motor is fine, so I have hopes for it. I will have to clean it well, etc etc etc...
And now I am in the process of understanding how it works, before even starting.
I found the service manual on Internet, 350 pages filled with lots of details up to the last screw, but not an overall explanation of how it works or how you operate it.

So I assume I will be asking from time to time some doubts here :)

My first doubt, is... does anyone know what type of socket is the one I show in the page? (link above)
I have an Olivetti TTY from the late 70s with the same socket, but I have not seen it on Internet so I am afraid it might be a socket used here in Argentina. I haven't yet tried to disassemble it to find out which wire is which one, but I thought I might ask here first.

Next questions... operation...
Please confirm or correct my assumptions:
1- The keyboard, and the reader, they send the pulses out of the TTY without internal connection to the printer, right?
2- The printer, and the tape puncher, they print the pulses received from outside, without internal connection to the keyboard and reader, right?
3- For everything to work at once, I have to loop the wires in the TTY connector, right? (Obviously including in the loop a suitable current source too)
4- Only once I do that, I will print what I type, and so on... correct?

Ok.. these are my first steps into these mechanical beats :)

Warmest regards!

Javier Albinarrate

PS: I tried searching the GeenKeys archives, but there is a CGI error in that webpage.
