Hi, Greenkeyers,
When I saw the posting a few weeks ago about the teletype units on
Craigslist available in Myrtle Beach, I responded right away. Then
so much time passed that I figured my chances were gone, but Saturday
I got an email from Web Williams saying they could be picked up, but
it had to be Easter Sunday, as the deal on the house was going down
on Monday. So after cooking biscuits and pancakes for the nice
people at Science Hill Friends, I headed for the coast. I got there
before the serious heat of the day and loaded up anything that looked
interesting and was not too well bolted down. Web was very helpful.
It turns out they were not model 15s, but Kleinschmidt machines.
After some consultation with Rice, I realized that the AN/UGC-4 is a
Klein page printer. And the TT 76B GGC is a keyboard transmitter
distributor and printer/paper tape punch. I also got some manuals
and half a dozen rolls of 7/8 inch paper, which Rice says is hard to
come by. The machines looked dry, but there didn't appear to be any
rust. The tape printer had a roll in it that had some printing on it
from the last time it worked.
It is too bad the truck mounted shelter/shack can't be saved.
According to Web, the new owner is going to cut it up and haul it to
the landfill. That is going to be a huge job because it is, like
most military equipment, extremely heavy and well built.
